New York City, home to business ventures, tall skyscrapers, and tourists, is a hub to the world of fashion. From fashion editorial to just shopping for new items, every corner you turn reveals the culture of the city and of the individual. Whether it’s a designer shop with the breathtaking window displays, or just someone you spot wearing an eye-catching outfit walking the streets of NYC, almost anything can inspire anyone to go deeper into the world of fashion. New York Fashion Week, an iconic and exclusive event that takes place in the city, is a dream to many girls. With the designers showing off their new ideas and content through their collections, and of course all the shows, this extremely lavish and extravagant week is not one to miss. However, perhaps the most important aspect brought by NYFW are the new trends and styles that are soon to be released. With the recent passing of Fashion Week, NYC, along with the rest of the world, is still recovering from the aftermath.

One of the most interesting things about fashion is the whole concept that nothing really goes out of style. It seems to be that trends are sort of a rotation; every few years they seem to come back. For instance, just when you thought that animal print had said its final goodbye, it turns out that fashion week brought much hope to this fad. Animal print, the most prominent being leopard, zebra, and snakeskin, is, what I believe to be, the biggest influence from fashion week. Walking into the mall, you can find store after store filled with these prints. I personally love this comeback. As a little girl, all I wore was animal print. I remember having this one furry zebra print sweater that I would never let go of. I eventually donated all that was in my closet, as I never would have thought that it would come back. On the contrary, when I saw the great news through the new collections of many brands, I was absolutely delighted and astonished. Animal print is a terrific way to dress up your fall outfits easily and effortlessly, and without great cost. The one downside is that I don’t believe this trend will last for long, so get it while you can!

Another instance of this concept of rotations can be seen through all the festival hype nowadays. I find this to be one of the most surprising comebacks. Many of the items we saw on our parents as teenagers are back and better than ever! With all the music festivals over this past spring and summer, and of course with the great weather, there is a cliché look that has come about. What many would call the perfect outfit for any fun-filled day consists of a crop top, cargo pants, fanny pack, chunky sneakers, and to top it all off, a colorful pair of sunglasses. Yes, the very intimidating and “old” style fanny packs are back and have gained much popularity. I have to say, I loved the cargo pants from the start, but I was a little reluctant to embrace the fanny packs at first. But as I started to see them styled in so many different ways, they started to grow on me, and I saw them as a perfect way to complete a look on a hot summer day. Also, as the cargo craze grew, cargo skirts and jackets were introduced as well, and found themselves sold out much quicker than expected. Now that it’s Fall and it’s colder outside, although this festival look is still prevailing, it’s definitely losing attention, but I hope to see it back soon!

Lastly comes my personal favorite item in any closet, shoes. To me, even if it’s the most basic pair, shoes are very versatile and can make your outfits stand out and be different from everyone else’s. I believe that shoes can tie an outfit together and can make the difference between a trendy outfit and a non-trendy outfit. However, it is not about the type of shoe you wear, but the way you style it. Every year, there is that IT sneaker that you can find in every girl’s closet. Over the last couple of years, it has gone from Supergas to Superstars to Stan Smiths to Vans and finally to this years IT sneaker, the Nike Air Force 1. To be honest, I almost saw this coming last winter as I saw more and more people wearing these sneakers. Personally, I absolutely love them. They are the iconic white chunky sneakers, but they are also super comfy and perfect for everyday wear. This shoe should definitely be a staple in every girl’s closet! I believe that next year’s IT sneakers will be the Converse Chuck Taylors, but I can’t wait to see what happens!

The world of fashion is often overlooked for its little significance compared to other worldly issues. However, fashion is a form of culture, and it allows the individual to express their creativity. In addition, our forever changing world can be compared to the ever changing or “rotating” world of fashion, as every year brings an “old” fad back to life and makes it “new.”

Therefore, I am happy to welcome Air Force 1’s to my closet and I am delighted to say that you can find animal print, cargo pants, and fanny packs back on the rack. Next time when you find yourself at the mall, looking for a classic piece of clothing, or something that will never go out of style, remember that nothing will ever really go out of style.
