Netflix has a wide variety of shows today, so here is a guide to help you navigate through finding some shows that I think are overrated, and some underrated shows that I highly recommend watching!
Top 4 Overrated Shows:
Grey’s Anatomy:
Look, I’m a die hard Grey’s Anatomy fan and I have binged it before. But I have to be honest, there are WAY too many seasons and it eventually becomes boring after several characters are killed off the show. The storylines are reused and new random characters are added to the show to somewhat spice things up. Well, sorry Shonda Rhimes, but Grey’s Anatomy just isn’t the same without the OG cast. We don’t want to watch random characters that we don’t care about, and there have been enough seasons.
Outer Banks:
Personally, I don’t think that Outer Banks is as good as everybody makes it out to be. I watched every episode, I know the entire cast by heart, and it was somewhat interesting. Nonetheless, it’s overrated and it is WAY too predictable, along with repetitive. You can predict everything before it occurs, and every season progressively gets more boring. The characters hardly spend any time together, the gold hunt eventually became dull to watch, and John B’s irritating father shouldn’t have been brought back. This show isn’t atrocious, but it is certainly overrated.
Vampire Diaries:
Despite Vampire Diaries being an adored series and having some interesting scenes and episodes, it is still very average. First off, the diversity throughout the show is SEVERELY lacking and practically all of the characters are white skinned. Second, the show goes completely downhill when Elena leaves. They start trying to incorporate weird elements into the show like mermaids and coven witches. Third, the show gets very dragged out out towards the end and there are several weird plots that are an attempt to keep it interesting.
Suits:
I have NO IDEA how people could possibly enjoy this show. Better yet, I have no idea how there is possibly 9 seasons of this plain, boring show. Getting through an episode is a utterly hard task. I’ll admit, I have only watched 2 episodes so maybe I can’t say much. However, those 2 episodes SEVERELY lacked excitement and I fell asleep at certain parts.
Now, here are a couple of underrated shows that you should take a look at, and if you have already seen it, then you should definitely watch it again!
Top 4 Underrated Shows:
Grand Army:
TURN YOUR TV ON, GO TO NETFLIX, AND WATCH THIS SHOW. This show is EXTREMELY underrated and should never have been cancelled. In my opinion, it is a significantly better version of Europhia. Grand Army is a television show that conveys real issues that people face and shows a realistic teenager experience. This show also has accurate representation on issues that minorities face and brings up issues like rape culture, racism, violence, etc. This series also has fun and less serious scenes that will bring a smile to your face by showing the importance of family, friendship, and romance.
Scream (The Series)
The movies within the Scream franchise are very well known and have many fans. However, the series “Scream” is an unpopular television show that not many people have watched. This show is extremely underrated despite having an interesting plot, an unpredictable killer, and likeable characters. This show has some unforeseeable jump scares, keeps you on the edge of your seat, an extreme amount of suspense, and the killer reveal is unforgettable.
Dash and Lily:
This is a romantic series that gets you in the mood for the Holiday season! This month, December, is the perfect time to watch this spectacular series. Dash and Lily is another underrated show that was canceled due to a lack of viewers. This show is filmed in New York City and has two main characters. These main characters are Dash and Lily anonymously learn about each other through a red notebook that Lily implanted in a library for somebody to take. Throughout the span of the movie, Lily and Dash have deep conversations and share intimate thoughts with each other.
Alexa and Katie:
This show is somewhat well known but it deserves more recognition. This show is about two best friends, Alexa and Katie, who would do anything for each other. Alexa and Katie has relatable characters, wholesome best friend moments, a cast with chemistry, hilarious scenes, and is definitely worth watching. In addition to this, it has some awesome holiday episodes that feature Halloween, Christmas, and Thanksgiving. Lastly, it addresses mental health problems by showing how it feels to have anxiety and panic attacks.
These suggestions are only based off of my experiences when watching these shows, so it’s okay if you disagree with me, but I urge that you try watching at least one of the underrated shows, you won’t regret it!
