When the 8:25 bell rang, signaling the beginning of period one, blobs of black, green, red, blue, and yellow could be seen rushing to their classes. Students dressed up in their Showdown themed-shirts for Friday’s Class Color Day theme. Some students with a fiery passion for Showdown adorned their outfits with various beaded necklaces, finger paint designs, and bandanas. As period one began, students begged their teachers to go to the commons and work on the puzzle, which would end by period eight.
The student commons were filled with an array of colors, bringing the school to life. On the side, an intense competition to finish creating the puzzle first went on between the Juniors and the Seniors. When the clock struck 10, the Juniors completed their puzzle, or so they thought. Ms. Pace, ready to check their puzzle, found one empty spot on the board. Frantically searching for the final piece, junior Logan Roberts came to the rescue and successfully found the final piece. The Juniors were awarded first place in the puzzle competition, and the Seniors would take second place some time after.
The final trivia match for Showdown Week was pop culture themed. Students also participated in the Pi Day Game, celebrating March 14th, Pi Day. They recited the hundreds of digits of pi that they spent the past few weeks memorizing. Friends could be seen testing each other on their memorization skills and you could hear 3.14159265… throughout the building. This activity went from periods four to eight.
Towards the end of the school day, all of the classes gathered in the auditorium for the Video Spirit Assembly. Each of the grades’ videos were centered around winning first place in Showdown and receiving the Showdown trophy.
Following the end of the school day, students went to supermarkets and prepared the hundreds of donations that they would be bringing to Friday Night Finale. By 6:30 PM, students began to fill up the gym and take their seats with their classes on the bleachers. The activities included chess, pickleball, the dance competition, the sock relay race, steal the bacon, Teseo’s tough math word problem challenge, knockout, and the over-under ball pass.
At the end of the events, the results were announced. The winners of the 2025 Showdown Trophy were the Seniors! Three points behind the Seniors, the Juniors were awarded second place. There was also a tie between the Sophomores and Freshmen for Third Place, and the 8th graders were in fourth place. Congratulations to the Class of 2025 for winning first place in Showdown this year!
