Are you ready to compete against other grades in Wheatley in a week-long battle of activities ranging from morning trivia, dress up days, a mascot building competition, class video contests, dance battles, a hula hoop contest, and sneaker relay???? Wheatley’s 2024 Showdown starts Monday, March 11th with a finale on Friday, March 15th! Get excited Wheatley!
The class colors of each grade always remain the same each year. 8th grade is black, Freshman are green, Sophomore’s are red, Junior’s are blue, and Senior’s are yellow. The 8th grade mascot is Po from Kung Fu Panda, the Freshman’s mascot is the Grinch, the Sophomores have the Red Angry Bird as their mascot, the Juniors have their mascot as Frozone from Incredibles, and lastly, the Senior’s mascot is Winnie the Pooh.
Each day is designated as a different dress up day. Showdown points are awarded to each grade for their participation in each dress up day. Starting off this week is Pajama day! Come to school in your coziest pajamas! Tuesday is Decades day. Choose any decade you would like – 20s, 80s, 2000s – and display the fashion of the clothing in that time! Following this, on Wednesday, is Anything But a Backpack Day! This was a new day added last year. Students got creative with using strollers, buckets, pillowcases, and many other things to hold their school supplies in for the day! Definitely a lot of laughs around the building. On Thursday it is Business Casual and Formal Attire Day! This day is new for Wheatley this year! Finally, Friday is Class Color Day! Make sure to purchase your class t-shirt in the lobby. The shirt will have your class mascot that someone in your grade designed!
The school week will be filled with various activities. One personal favorite of mine is watching the Morning Trivia! Students compete in a trivia “game show” in categories such as Science, Math, Literature, History, and Pop Culture. Make sure to sign up to be a participant if you feel that your strength in these subjects can win some points for your grade!
The class video is also a great way to get involved with Showdown and to work alongside your peers in your grade. Each grade creates a video in which they create scenes around Showdown and the year’s mascots. Typically the grades have scenes in which their mascot defeats other mascots, demonstrating their grade’s superiority. The videos are filled with funny moments and it is always enjoyable to watch them. The videos are ranked and points can be earned this way!
