Showdown 2025: Day Two

As Wheatley students and faculty members entered through the red doors and the glass doors on Tuesday morning, they were sent into the building through a time machine. Peers and teachers welcomed the second day of Showdown Week with various Decades Day themed outfits. Ranging from 70s hippies to the iconic 1920s flappers, the Wheatley hallways were filled with plenty of unique costume ideas. Students wearing leather jackets, thick gold chains, and baseball and basketball uniforms confidently strutted the hallways, awaiting the Showdown activities for Tuesday to commence. To start the day off, Ms. Pace hosted the math-themed trivia after period one.

During periods one through eight, each class designed banners of their respective mascot and utilized their slogans in an effort to show off their school spirit. Y2K inspired tracksuits lay along the cafeteria floor with seventeenth-century pilgrims who painted the class banners. While most classes focus on depicting themselves defeating their competitors, the Seniors took a different approach to their banner. In addition to painting the other class’ mascots, the Class of 2025 went down memory lane and also featured their previous Showdown mascots. This included Edna Mode, Franklin the Turtle, Kool-Aid Man, and Frozone.

Wheatley students also enjoyed shortened periods, which allowed time for the Spirit Assembly. At 2 PM, all students entered the Wheatley gym and classes competed in several different activities, including: the Limbo Contest, Scooter Relay Race, Hula Hoop Contest, Hula Hoop Chain, Sneaker Relay, and Musical Chairs with the class advisors. Some memorable highlights include Robert Marasia’s impressive limbo skills, Mr. Plana’s hidden musical chairs talent, and the mysterious pair of shoes that remained unclaimed after the sneaker relay. Following the assembly, five students represented each class in the Brainstormers competition which took place in the IMC.
