Showdown 2025: Day One

After months of waiting in great anticipation, Showdown Week has finally arrived! The annual battle between the classes started yesterday on Monday March 10. To begin Showdown Week, students participated in various activities.

Class Mascots:

  • Seniors: Homer Simpson
  • Juniors: Genie (Aladdin)
  • Sophomores: Lighting McQueen
  • Freshmen: Hulk
  • 8th Grade: Penguins of Madagascar

The day began with the LEGO building contest that took place in the lobby. Students were tasked with the challenge of designing their respective Showdown mascot. This event ran from periods one through eight. 1st place was awarded to the Juniors, 2nd place went to the Freshmen, 3rd place to 8th Grade, 4th place to the Seniors, and 5th place to the Sophomores.

In spirit of Monday’s dress-up day, Wheatley students sported their favorite pajamas and onesies. Students rushed into the auditorium upon the bell signaling the end of their first period classes to come and watch their peers compete against each other in a trivia competition. Host Ms. Pace announced that the Day One category would be science, and the Seniors took first place.

During periods four through eight, students participated in BrainBolt. This activity challenged their memory skills, as they competed to achieve the highest possible streak from recalling a growing sequence of lights. Students also attended the ping pong tournament, which took place in the cafeteria after school.

Other charity competitions were also made open to the students, including the Book Fairies Collection, Hygiene Supply Kits, Clothing Drive, and Coins v. Bills. The Senior and Junior classes were quick to fill up their bins for Coins v. Bills.

To end the night, students were encouraged to attend Tri-M’s Wheatley’s Got Talent at 7 PM. The class with the highest attendance was awarded Showdown points, as well as the winning performance. There were a total of five performances, with contestants from all of the grades. This year’s winner was the band Tumbleweed. This seven-member group consisted of Juniors Maiya Vohra and Krish Patel, and Seniors Ava Varghese, Emma Santarelli, Azelle Kim, Jacob Ferraro, and Arsal Ijaz. The Showdown points were distributed to both of the winning classes that made up this talented group.

The final standings after Day One were as follows:

  • 1st Place: Juniors (84 points)
  • 2nd Place: Freshmen (74 points)
  • 3rd Place: Seniors (73 points)
