Girls Varsity Soccer (the defending Long Island Girls Varsity Soccer Champions) are off to a solid start this season. The team is coached by Michelle Santoro who took over the position from Paul Paino who retired after 37 years of coaching The Wildcats. The team is led by Co-captains Rachel Bergsohn, Nikki Hetzel, and Tiffany Bernot. The Wildcats have played 3 competitive games and are starting to find their stride. The team lost their season opener and drew their next two games. On September 16, the team played against division leader JFK High School in Bellmore. Tiffany Bernot scored late in the second half to tie the score while Meaghan Doherty made key saves to keep Wheatley in the game. The game ended in a draw, and it was apparent to all that the team played with determination and a never give up attitude. After three games, Tiffany Bernot is the leading goal scorer and was just recognized by Newsday as one of the top 50 soccer players on Long Island. The team is made up of five seniors: Rachel Bergsohn, Doey Dunne, Meaghan Doherty, Nikki Hetzel, Erin Patterson, 6 juniors: Tiffany Bernot, Julia Braito, CeCe Joseph, Ciara O’Brien, Grace McPhillips and Samantha Rothstein, and 4 sophomores: Katie Gold, Isa Rios, Rebecca Sparacio, and Amanda Ustick.
