Girls Varsity Tennis Season Comes to an End

With the girls varsity tennis season coming to a close, it’s clear the team came together in their matches and made lots of improvements to their games. Even though the season began a little slow for the Wheatley Wildcats, the girls were able to work hard and develop their net game and consistency. The 5-2 victory over Garden City showed the girls the potential the team has. Although this was a very competitive match the girls fought hard and pulled out a win. The coach, Joseph Virgilio, has been coaching the tennis team for two years now and helps the girls reach their potential, in every match. The team captains, Hunter Schore, Ali Ostad, and Hannah Ostad bring a positive environment and allow all of the girls to bring the best for each game. The team is filled with seniors including Jordyn Joel, Charlie Kaminsky, Michelle Raja, Michelle Strocchia, and Jamie Konigsberg. The juniors are Sarah Chimerine, Brooke Schwartz, Alex Delgais, Charlotte Goldbaum, Mara Zuckerman, and Jessie Nussdorf. There are three sophomores, Kaya Amin, Kavina Amin, and Megan Kaye and one freshman, Anika Mittle. Kaya, Kavina, and Michele Raja all were selected to be in the Nassau County championships at Eisenhower Park, at the end of the season. Kaya and Kavina placed 2nd in doubles and now are heading for the state tournament in Latham. With many close matches throughout the season, they are confident that next season will be even better! Even though it’s sad to see many of our seniors leave, the Girls Varsity tennis team looks like it will just keep improving!
