Homecoming 2019!

On Saturday, October 5th Wheatley had its annual Homecoming event, a day filled with fun, athletics, and food! During Homecoming, the Wheatley fields were packed with hundreds of students, parents, and community members enjoying the beautiful day and great events, games, and food. The competitive games brought out a huge Wheatley crowd, with so many people cheering on friends and family. JV boys soccer, JV girls soccer, JV girls volleyball, Varsity football, Varsity girls soccer, Varsity boys soccer, and Varsity girls volleyball all had games on Saturday and brought a lot of school spirit to the event. Despite the football team’s tough loss, The Wildcats had a very successful day! The varsity boys soccer team won 4-1, girls soccer tied 2-2, and varsity volleyball won their first game of the season 3-1! The varsity tennis team won their match Friday against Locust Valley 5-2 and continued their 10 game winning streak! The Varsity Tennis team did not have a game during Homecoming, but held a youth tennis clinic for students in our district, grades 3-6. The clinic allowed the Varsity team to share their love for tennis and give back to the younger students in our community.

In addition to athletics, there were numerous other activities for younger children and community members to enjoy throughout the day. This year the Cultural Initiatives Committee held an International Food Court for the second year, highlighting the diverse and tasty foods from numerous countries. They sold empanadas, pasta, burgers, samosas, and dumplings and also some great desserts and drinks. In addition, Wheatley clubs helped make the event fun and memorable. The Student Government sold candy throughout the day and the Connections Club sold Wheatley merchandise at the event as well. Tri-M coordinated numerous fall-themed activities for younger students from North Side and Willets. There was pumpkin decorating, mummy wrap contests, donut fishing, tattoos, and face painting. In addition, the multiple bouncy houses and a great DJ kept the environment energetic and lively. If you missed Homecoming, make sure to come next year, it will definitely be a day filled with fun.  It was great to have a school-spirited event with so many people attending from all three schools in our district!
